Installing the R3 Pro on DJI M300-M350

Installing the ROCK R3 Pro on DJI M300 & DJI M350 Drones

Welcome to this guide where we will take you step-by-step through the process of mounting the ROCK R3 Pro onto two popular drones, the DJI M300 and DJI M350. Let's begin.

1. Unboxing the ROCK R3 Pro

When you open the package of the ROCK R3 Pro, nestled within the box, you'll find:

  • The R3 Pro main unit.
  • The lever arm attachment.
  • The essential GPS module.

Before proceeding, it's recommended to attach the lever arm to the R3 Pro while it's still in the box for ease of handling. To do this, align the lever arm with its respective slot (as shown in the above video) on the R3 Pro and tighten it until it's secure.

2. Preliminary Checks

Before moving ahead, there are a few things to inspect to ensure optimal performance:

  • LiDAR Lens Inspection: Remove the lens cap from the R3 Pro. You'll be greeted by a 360-degree lens. Ensure this lens is devoid of any dust or smudges. A blower can be an effective tool to blow off minor dust particles. For smudges, especially those caused by accidental fingerprints, lens cleaning wipes containing isopropyl alcohol work wonders.
  • Camera Lens Care: Repeat the cleaning process for the 26-megapixel camera lens to ensure crystal clear imagery.
  • Camera Security Check: Ensure the camera is firmly attached to the unit. You don't need to use excessive force; it merely needs to be hand-tight. A quick inspection of the screws should suffice.

3. Mounting the R3 Pro onto the Drones

Now, moving to the drone, you need to expose its SkyPort. The R3 Pro is designed to seamlessly integrate with this port. Notably, both the R3 Pro and the drone have alignment indicators: a white dot on the R3 Pro and a red dot on the drone. Aligning these dots ensures proper positioning. After aligning, twist the R3 Pro until the red dots on both the drone and the R3 Pro line up, indicating a secure fit.

4. Installing the GPS

Last but not least, extract the GPS module from the box. This module comes with built-in screws and threads. Attach it to the designated port on the R3 Pro's side. A gentle twist will help seat the GPS properly before you tighten it down.

5. Final Checks

With the R3 Pro now secured onto the DJI M300 (the process is identical for the M350), you're almost ready to fly. Here's what you should check next:

  1. Ensure you have a USB in place in the R3 Pro to store data.
  2. Conduct a quick inspection of the vibration isolator balls on the drone. With the weight of the R3 Pro on them, they should still maintain their form and not show signs of stress.

Congratulations, you have now successfully installed the ROCK R3 Pro onto your DJI M300 or M350 drone. Now you are set to capture some high-quality LiDAR data. Happy mapping, and see you in the next lesson!
